Day by day

  1. Day 1 Osaka

Arrive Tokyo, bullet train to Osaka.

Welcome to Japan. Your return flights from Delhi and Japan visa are included. After landing in Tokyo, our representative meets the group and you board the Shinkansen bullet train to Osaka, a journey of about two and a half hours at up to 285 km per hour. Large suitcases may be sent ahead by courier. Check in to your 4-star hotel in Osaka and rest. In the evening, enjoy a welcome Indian dinner with your fellow travellers. Overnight in Osaka.

  2. Day 2 Osaka

    Kyoto in blossom.

A full-day cultural tour of Kyoto, the old imperial capital, about 30 minutes from Osaka. Walk through the red torii gates of Fushimi Inari shrine, visit Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, and Kiyomizu-dera on its wooden terrace. Early March brings plum blossom and early-flowering cherry trees, while full bloom in Kyoto usually arrives in late March. Stroll through the old Gion district, where you might spot a geiko. Return to Osaka. Your tour leader shares tips on etiquette at temples and shrines. Overnight in Osaka.

  3. Day 3 Osaka

    Nara and Osaka city.

Travel to Nara, Japan's first permanent capital, about 45 minutes away. Walk through Nara Park, where hundreds of friendly deer roam freely and bow for crackers, and visit Todai-ji temple, one of the largest wooden buildings in the world, with its giant bronze Buddha. Return to Osaka for a city tour, including Osaka Castle and the neon lights and street food of Dotonbori in the evening. Buy deer crackers only from the official stalls, and keep paper bags and maps away from the curious deer. Overnight in Osaka.

  4. Day 4 Osaka

    Free day in Osaka.

A free day in Osaka to explore at your own pace. Visit Universal Studios Japan, with Super Nintendo World and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, at extra cost, or the Kaiyukan aquarium, one of the largest in the world. Shop in Shinsaibashi and Namba, or take the train to Kobe or Himeji Castle. Try takoyaki and okonomiyaki, Osaka's favourite snacks, with vegetarian versions available on request. Universal Studios tickets sell out in spring, so book in advance through us if you plan to go. Overnight in Osaka.

  5. Day 5 Tokyo

    Bullet train to Tokyo.

Board the Shinkansen back to Tokyo, about two and a half hours. On clear days, watch for Mount Fuji from the right-hand side of the train. Check in to your hotel in Tokyo and spend the evening exploring the city. Visit Shinjuku or Shibuya, with their bright neon signs, busy crossings and endless shops. Use a prepaid IC card such as Suica on the trains. Shinjuku's Gyoen garden and Ueno Park are famous for blossom, so ask your tour leader about the latest bloom forecast. Overnight in Tokyo.

  6. Day 6 Tokyo

    Mt Fuji and Hakone.

A scenic day trip to Mount Fuji and Hakone. Drive to Mount Fuji, Japan's highest and most sacred mountain at 3,776 metres, and enjoy the views on clear days. Access to the higher stations depends on the season and weather. Continue to Hakone, a hot spring area, for a cruise on Lake Ashi and the Hakone Ropeway over the volcanic valley of Owakudani, where eggs are boiled black in the hot springs. Return to Tokyo. Carry a warm jacket for the mountains. Overnight in Tokyo.

  7. Day 7 Tokyo

    Tokyo city and Skytree.

A guided city tour of Tokyo. Visit Senso-ji, Tokyo's oldest temple, in Asakusa, and walk through Nakamise shopping street. See the Imperial Palace gardens and Meiji Jingu shrine in its forest. Then ride up the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in Japan, for sweeping views over the city, entry included. Cross the famous Shibuya crossing. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers. Tokyo is easy to explore by train, and your tour leader shares tips for evenings out in Ginza, Shibuya or Akihabara. Overnight in Tokyo.

  8. Day 8 Tokyo

    Departure.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Delhi. Pack Japanese snacks, matcha sweets and souvenirs carefully. Tourists can buy tax-free in many shops by showing their passport. Please reach the airport three hours before departure. Check the baggage allowance for your flight, and keep any Japanese medicines in their original packing. Your spring journey through Japan ends here, with memories of temples, bullet trains, Mount Fuji and the first blossoms of the year.
