Sustainability
Travel that leaves places better.
The places we love only stay beautiful if travellers treat them with care. Here is what we do, and how you can help on your trip.
We work with local drivers, guides, homestays and family-run hotels, so more of your spend stays in the communities you visit.
A share of every trip supports the Sutra Foundation, our group's NGO working in education, women's safety, hunger relief and animal welfare across India.
We choose licensed safaris with trained naturalists, keep to park rules, and do not sell activities that exploit animals.
On pilgrimages we brief travellers on temple customs and dress, and follow local rules on registration, crowd control and waste.
Our itineraries avoid needless back-and-forth driving and suggest trains or longer stays where they make sense.
We use registered houseboats, shacks and activity operators that meet local safety and environmental standards.
Your part, in five easy habits.
- 1Carry a bottle
Refill instead of buying plastic. Most hotels and our vehicles can help.
- 2Leave no trace
Bring back what you carry in, especially in the Himalaya, beaches and forests.
- 3Buy local
Choose local crafts and food over imported souvenirs.
- 4Dress and act with respect
Follow customs at temples, monasteries and villages, and ask before photographing people.
- 5Keep your distance
Never feed or crowd wildlife, on land or at sea.
We are honest about where we are: responsible travel is a journey, not a badge. If you have ideas or feedback, tell us.
Tell us the dates.
We'll do the rest.
