Day by day

  1. Day 1 Copenhagen

    Arrive, check in.

Welcome to Denmark. Indian travellers need a Schengen visa, which our team helps you file. After landing in Copenhagen, our representative meets you for the transfer to your hotel. Check in and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Walk to Nyhavn, the colourful old harbour lined with cafes and wooden ships, or visit the Tivoli Gardens, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, when open. Winter days are short and cold, so dress warmly. Overnight in Copenhagen.

  2. Day 2 Aarhus

    Via Odense to Aarhus.

After a panoramic tour of Copenhagen, with the Little Mermaid statue and Amalienborg Palace, drive west across the Great Belt Bridge to Odense, the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, author of fairy tales such as The Little Mermaid. Walk through the old town where he grew up. Continue to Aarhus, Denmark's second city, and visit the ARoS art museum with its circular rainbow walkway on the roof, when time allows. Danish pastries and open sandwiches make a good lunch on the way. Overnight in Aarhus.

  3. Day 3 Stavanger

Ferry to Norway, on to Stavanger.

Travel north and take the ferry across the Skagerrak strait into Norway, a crossing of a few hours with views of the sea. Arrive at Kristiansand on Norway's south coast, then drive west along the coast to Stavanger, a pretty port town of white wooden houses and the centre of Norway's oil industry. In the evening, walk through Gamle Stavanger, the old town, with its cobbled lanes. The North Sea can be rough in winter, so seasickness tablets are useful. Overnight in Stavanger.

  4. Day 4 Bergen

    Drive and ferries to Bergen.

Drive north from Stavanger to Bergen along the fjord coast, with short ferry crossings across the fjords and views of mountains, waterfalls and small fishing villages. Bergen, the gateway to the fjords, sits between seven mountains. Walk along Bryggen, the UNESCO-listed wharf with its old wooden merchant houses, and visit the fish market. Ride the Fløibanen funicular up Mount Fløyen for a beautiful view over the city and harbour. Bergen is famous for rain, so carry a waterproof jacket and good shoes. Overnight in Bergen.

  5. Day 5 Oslo

    Sognefjord cruise, stave church, Oslo.

Today is one of the most scenic of the tour. Drive into the fjord country and take a cruise on the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway, through steep cliffs and tiny villages. Stop at the Borgund Stave Church, a medieval wooden church with dragon heads on its roof. Continue across the mountains to Oslo, Norway's capital, arriving in the evening. Winter road conditions can change the route slightly. Keep your camera ready, as the fjord views change at every bend. Overnight in Oslo.

  6. Day 6 Stockholm

    Via Örebro to Stockholm.

Morning panoramic tour of Oslo, with the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Royal Palace and the modern Opera House, whose sloping roof you can walk on for views of the fjord. Then drive east into Sweden through forests and lakes, stopping at Örebro, a town built around a medieval castle on a river. Continue to Stockholm, the Swedish capital spread across fourteen islands. Sweden uses the krona, so keep a card handy, as most shops prefer cards to cash. The drive passes frozen lakes in winter. Overnight in Stockholm.

  7. Day 7 Stockholm

    Free day in Stockholm.

A free day in Stockholm, or join an optional tour. Walk through Gamla Stan, the old town, with its narrow lanes, the Royal Palace and the Nobel Prize Museum. Visit the Vasa Museum, home to a seventeenth-century warship that sank on its first voyage and was raised almost intact, or the ABBA Museum for some fun. See City Hall, where the Nobel banquet is held. In winter, the city is full of lights and markets. Most museums open late on Wednesdays. Overnight in Stockholm.

  8. Day 8 Copenhagen

    Kronborg Castle, back to Copenhagen.

Drive south through Sweden to Helsingborg and take the short ferry, about twenty minutes, across the Øresund strait to Helsingør in Denmark. Visit Kronborg Castle, the grand Renaissance castle made famous as Elsinore in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Then continue down the coast to Copenhagen for your final evening. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers, or a stroll through the city lights. Kronborg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its cannons still face the narrow strait that kings once taxed every passing ship for. Overnight in Copenhagen.

  9. Day 9 Copenhagen

    Departure.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and say goodbye to your tour manager and the group. Depending on your flight time, enjoy a final walk along Strøget, one of the longest pedestrian shopping streets in Europe. Our representative transfers you to Copenhagen airport for your flight home. Please reach three hours before departure and claim VAT refunds before check-in. Pack Danish butter cookies or Scandinavian design gifts carefully in your checked luggage. Your Scandinavian journey through Denmark, Norway and Sweden ends here.
